QUINCY, Ill. – Coming off a tough home loss on Thursday, the Quincy University men's basketball team bounced back with a 75-64 win over Illinois Springfield on Saturday afternoon. The Hawks outrebounded the Prairie Stars 38-26, and held the lead for over 80 percent of the game, and

Jamaurie Coakley, and
Charles Callier combined for 50 points in the Hawk victory.
Adam Moore and
Jamaurie Coakley got QU off on the right foot after Moore splashed a three and Coakley hit a jumper to give the Hawks an early five-point lead. UIS came back and tied the score at 5-5, but a ten-point Quincy run later in the quarter gave the home squad a 17-8 lead.
QU's lead expanded to thirteen after back-to-back three's from
Silas Crisler and
Charles Callier. The score sat at 23-10 QU with 8:38 left in the first half.
UIS was able to slim their margin before halftime behind a 10-4 run in the final three minutes of the half. At the break the score was 36-31 favoring the Hawks.
In the first three minutes of the second half, the Prairie Stars made a run at QU by cutting the game to one point , 41-40, with 16:51 on the clock. The visitors continued to ride this momentum shift and took the lead following a 6-0 run that featured four made free throws and a layup. UIS held the lead 46-43 with 14:19 to go.
Quincy answered the bell with a 12-2 scamper to steam ahead 55-48 at the ten minute mark.
Tanner Stuckman scored six points on the run and
Paul Zilinskas,
Charles Callier, and
Jamaurie Coakley also added baskets for QU.
This gave the Hawks the breathing room they needed the rest of the way. UIS cut it to a five-point game with 7:28 remaining, but Quincy used an 11-3 swing to gain a 66-55 advantage.
The Hawks didn't score a field goal in the last six minutes, but they used consistent foul shooting to put the Prairie Stars away. QU went on to win 75-64.
