#21 Hawks Power Past SBU and UIS With Consecutive Sweeps

QUINCY, Ill - The Quincy University women's volleyball team saw two sweeps on Saturday (Feb. 28) versus Southwest Baptist University and the University of Illinois-Springfield. Emily Rehagen led the attack with 30 kills during the two matches.  

Game 1

Through the first twelve points of the contest, the match was tied 6-6 after a touch kill from Makayla Knoblauch. QU's first lead came for the Hawks on Rehagan's third strike of the first set, giving QU an 11-10 advantage.

After an attack from Mattie Norris followed by a Rothermich service ace, the Bearcats were forced to burn their first time out after trailing 16-14. Exiting the break, Quincy extended their lead to as many as five points. 

A SBU ball handling error led to back-to-back kills from Rehangan as Quincy took set one, 25-16. Quincy went on to secure the final two sets of the contest behind an offensive explosion. The Hawks took set two, 25-15, and closed the match out with a final set score of, 25-15.

As a whole, Quincy hit the ball at a high percentage attacking at a .346 clip compared to the Bearcats .121 percentage.

Emily Rehagan led the attack with 13 strikes, along with eight attacks from the trio of Mattie Norris, Alyssa Grimm, and Sydney ClarkSarah Blair also chipped in with four service aces, and Makayla Knoblauch dished out 37 total assists.

Game 2
Makayla Knoblauch tied the contest at 7-7 after a tip on the over. Quincy then took their first lead after a ball handling error and a combined block by Sydney Clark and Alyssa Grimm, 11-9. 

Back-to-back kills from Rehagen and Mattie Norris created a four point separation a 20-16. UIS called a timeout to slow QU's momentum, but it was unsuccessful. Quincy scored the next three points extending their lead, 23-16. 

The final strike came on a Knoblauch assist to Rehagan on a right side kill. Quincy took set one, 25-20.

In set two, Quincy jumped out to a 6-0 advantage on a perfect four-of-four attacking start. Later on in the set, a pair of blocks from UIS brought the Prairie Stars within three, 10-7. QU went on to notch four of the next five points extending their lead to 14-8. 

The largest lead of set two for QU came at 19-11 on a double block from Grimm and Clark which was then followed by a kill by Sydney Clark.

A Knoblauch kill was the final blow in a 25-18 set two victory. The Hawks were exceptional in the attacking category hitting .344 behind 17 set two kills.

The third set was a mirror of the previous two, as Rehagan's four early kills gave Quincy a 12-8 lead. 

UIS outscored the Hawks 7-3 over the next ten points, and Quincy was forced to burn a timeout to slow down the Prairie Stars. The timeout fueled QU as they finished the contest on an 8-4 run which was concluded by a missile from Rehagen.

Quincy closed out the contest with a 25-19 victory to seal the GLVC Triangular sweep. 

The Hawks hit .324 through three sets against UIS, while holding UIS to a .124 hitting percentage.
