QUINCY, Ill. – It's been nearly a year since the COVID-19 pandemic halted spring sports and turned the world of collegiate athletics upside down across the country, but today (Feb. 25), the Quincy University athletic department announced that it will be allowing spectators for all home outdoor sports contests this spring.
Given the current circumstances, there still will be limitations in place to ensure the safety of all student-athletes and game day staff. The university will be allowing up to 25% capacity of each outdoor venue which includes QU Stadium (baseball and football), Legends Stadium, and the Mart Heinen Softball Complex.
Included within the 25% capacity will be a family pass list in which each student-athlete that is dressed out to play will be allowed two tickets for family members. Each team's head coach will be in charge of distributing and reporting this pass list to the game day personnel 48 hours prior to the contest. Parents and family will not be permitted on the field after the conclusion of any home contest. Separate entrance and exit routes will be provided when applicable.
Any other fans that want to attend games and are not on a family pass list will be allowed entry if the capacity has not yet been met for that facility. General public tickets will be sold for $5 each and will be sold on a first come, first serve basis. QU faculty, staff, and students will be considered general public attendance but will be allowed free entry with their QU ID card. Once capacity is met, no other spectators will be allowed to enter.
Capacity and ticket distribution for each facility are as listed:
Football: 450 tickets total; 250 pass list tickets for players; 100 pass list tickets for cheer, dance, and band; 100 general public tickets
Lacrosse: 450 tickets total, 60 pass list tickets, 390 general public tickets
Baseball: 350 tickets total, 150 pass list tickets, 200 general public tickets
Soccer: 375 tickets total, 75 pass list tickets combined, 300 general public tickets
Softball: 50 pass list tickets, general public will be monitored outside this number
Seating for home events will be separated accordingly and spectators will be asked to adhere to masking and distancing guidelines. Failure to comply will result in removal.
Other rules will be in place at each facility, for example, the west side bleachers will not be available for seating during football and lacrosse games. Seating areas that are allowed to be in use is what the 25% capacity is based on. Also, any unused pass list tickets can be added in as general public numbers once the pass list is promptly submitted by a team's coaching staff.
Concessions will also be provided at certain contests upon the Mart Heinen Booster Club's discretion and may not be available at all contests. Pre-packaged food and drinks will be sold when available.
