Springfield, Ill. - The Quincy University women's soccer team traveled to face UIS on Friday (Oct 8) night and lost 2-1 in overtime.
In the opening stages of the game, the Hawks took the first six shots including three on goal. Not long after,
Lexi Porchia passed the ball to
Jessica Felix in the 15th minute, and Felix finished in the lower left corner of the frame to give QU a 1-0 lead. This was the third goal of the season for Felix.
The Hawks defense did not allow the Prairie Stars to take a shot on goal during the first half.
However, the Prairie Stars took the first five shots after the break and had two on goal. Oliva Kindt was able to make both saves in the 53rd and 56th minute to keep UIS off the board.
In the 60th minute,
Samaris Alvarado and
Alaina Nasello both had shots on goal, but UIS was able to make both stops to keep the score 1-0.
Kindt was not tested again until 72nd minute, and she was in the right position to make the stop.
The tides turned when UIS was fouled inside the box in the 87th minute. The home team tied the game at 1-1 after executing a successful penalty kick.
Right before the end of regulation, QU nearly hit the game-winner.
Jessica Felix hit the crossbar in the 89th minute and the game went to overtime.
In the first overtime period, Oliva Kindt made a save in the 93rd minute, but UIS was able to score the game-winning goal in the 98th minute. It was Quincy's fifth consecutive loss.
