HAMMOND, IN. - Quincy's women's volleyball team opened up play with a doubleheader at the Midwest Regional Crossover on Friday (Oct. 15). The Hawks took down Northwood in four sets in game one then swept Ohio Dominican in the nightcap.
Thirty-eight schools from three conferences were represented at the Midwest Regional Crossover.
Game 1
Quincy opened things up against GLIAC opponent Northwood University. The Hawks found themselves down early when the Timberwolves grabbed the first set 25-23. QU got back even after winning the second set 25-22.
Quincy's attack hit their stride in the third set as they hit .394 as a team. The Hawks went up 2-1 after winning 25-20 then sealed the deal with a 25-22 set four win.
Quincy showed a balanced attack as
Emily Rehagen had 14 kills and
Emma Wijnbergen added 13. Supplementing the outside attack was efficient play from QU's middle blockers
Sarah Brown and
Alyssa Grimm. Grimm hit .467 in the contest and contributed eight kills. Brown also hit over .400, added seven kills, and had five block assists.
Game 2
Despite a five-hour layover between games, Quincy's momentum rolled right into their evening matchup with the Panthers of Ohio Dominican. The offense took it to ODU and slugged .342 in the straight set sweep. Quincy had just nine attacking errors all game while the Panthers committed 18 errors on the attack.
The Hawks also dominated the block where they had ten block assists to ODU's three total blocks.
Alyssa Grimm and
Emma Wijnbergen each had three block assists for the Hawks.
QU's efficient attack was led by Rehagen, Grimm, and Brown. The trio combined to hit .375 as Rehagen slammed 14 kills on 34 total attacks. Brown and Grimm each had ten kills and hit .421 in the contest.
Next Up
The Hawks will wrap up the weekend against Saginaw Valley State tomorrow (Oct. 16) at 12:45 PM. The Cardinals lost to Missouri S&T in five sets then were swept by UMSL on day one.
