QUINCY, Ill. - Homecoming weekend continued on Friday night (Hawktober 1) as the women's soccer team hosted No. 22 Indianapolis and fell 1-0 in double overtime.
The opening stages of the game was slow, and then the Hawks won a ball and
Jessica Felix played it to
Lauren Crane. Crane's shot was blocked in the 18th minute.
Quincy earned two corner kicks in the next few minutes, but UIndy had strong defense. With 18 minutes left in the first half UIndy earned a free kick outside the box, and Oliva Kindt made the save. The Hawks defense kicked away the deflection as well.
One minute later, UIndy had a strike on goal that Kindt was able to save to keep the game scoreless.
In the 30th minute, Lexi Porcha shot a free kick that went wide of the frame after QU got fouled outside the box.
Lauren Crane later won a ball in the Hawks' half then she played the ball to
Jessica Felix who earned a corner kick. Less than a minute later, QU teed up its fourth corner attempt of the period, but UIndy fended QU off once again.
Kindt made another save with less than a minute to go in the first half as the first period ended without a score.
Fifteen minutes into the second half, Indianapolis had a free kick outside the 18-yard box, but Kindt made the stop once again.
The game remained scoreless and went into an overtime period.
Kindt made two great back-to-back stops in the 97th minute then
Haley Glenn subbed in for her after heavy contact. Kindt reentered a few minutes later, and
Morgan Evans was issued a yellow card at the end of the first overtime period.
UIndy earned a penalty kick in the 102nd minute after being pushed down in the box. Indianapolis made the shot to win, 1-0.
The Greyhounds outshot QU 13-1 on goal during the game, and Kindt made 11 saves for the second time in the last three games.
The Hawks were blanked for the third consecutive game.
