Rehagen Tallies 23 Kills as Hawks Defeat Truman State

QUINCY, Ill. –  The Quincy University women's volleyball team came out victorious in their first home game of the season against Truman State University on Saturday (Jan. 30). Hawks' sophomore Emily Rehagen had a career-high performance after collecting 23 kills which propelled QU over the Bulldogs in four sets 17-25, 25-13, 25-16, 25-19.

1st Set
QU started off on the right foot in the first set as they went on a 7-3 run to open things up.  TSU responded quickly as they came right back and took a 9-8 lead. Not long after, Truman scored seven straight points to extend their lead to 17-9. QU could not climb their way back as they lost the set, 25-17.

2nd Set
QU came back stronger in the second set and jumped out to an early 4-1 lead. The Hawks later went on a 6-0 run extending their lead to 13-3. QU's offense continued their attack and stayed in front for the rest of the set as they won set two, 25-13.

3rd Set
Both teams started the third set by exchanging points until an attack error by Rehagen tied the game, 8-8. The Hawks had an answer as they scored the next four points taking a 12-8 lead. A kill by Sarah Brown and three TSU attack errors fueled the four-point run. This changed the tide of the set as the Bulldogs were not able to hang with the Hawks the rest of the way. Quincy took set three, 25-16.

4th Set
Quincy hit their stride in the fourth and final set as the Hawks hit .318 with 19 kills on 44 attempts. QU started the fourth set on a 5-1 run to set the tone early. TSU narrowed the score to two points after a block by TSU made it 6-4.

Truman State continued to fight back as they later tied the game, 10-10. The Hawks had an answer with kills by Sarah Brown and Mattie Norris taking back the lead, 12-10. QU kept a two-point lead in the set until the last four points of the game. QU led 21-19 before scoring the final four points in a row. Rehagen recorded three kills and Elizabeth Lightner added one more to end the set and win the game.

Emily Rehagen's 23 kills was the most at QU since Taylor McMonagle recorded 24 against Wisconsin Parkside in 2018. Last season, the Hawks had a player record twenty or more kills four times, and three of those instances came from Rehagen.
