QUINCY, Ill. – The Quincy University women's basketball team saw three players score in double-digits in a 70-49 loss to University of Missouri- St. Louis on Thursday evening (Jan. 21).
Hawks jumped out to an early 4-0 lead behind a
Laney Lantz layup, and two made
Jazzpher Evans free throws.
The teams exchanged buckets, but a three pointer from
Dami Adeyinka cut the Tritons lead to one, 14-13. UMSL responded by scoring the final five points of the quarter taking a 19-13 lead.
Quincy answered by going on a 19-5 run early in the second quarter led by the scoring tandem of
Laney Lantz and
Jazzpher Evans. The Hawks took control, 32-24.
UMSL refused to go away and scored the final eight points of the period. At the half Quincy held a one point lead 33-32.
The second half quickly got away from the Hawks. UMSL's defensive pressure turned into a 19-2 third quarter run over a ten minute span. After the third, QU trailed 51-35.
This deficit was too much for the Hawks to overcome as Quincy fell 70-49.
Despite the loss, three QU players reached double figures, and the Hawks forced 15 Triton turnovers.
