ST. CHARLES, Mo. – Two of the top-five offensive scoring teams met in a GLVC contest on Saturday (Jan. 16) as the Hawks hit the road to face Lindenwood, but the Hawks were unable to keep up in the second half and were defeated, 93-77.
Both teams started fast in Saturday's contest. The Hawks gained an early 5-2 lead following a midrange jumper from
Tanner Stuckman and a three-pointer by
Charles Callier.
Lindenwood answered back on the offensive end with back-to-back buckets to move in front, 6-5.
Adam Moore had a response after nailing a three from the wing, and point guard,
Jamaurie Coakley, got in the paint for a basket to give QU the lead, 10-6.
The fourth-highest scoring offense in the GLVC got into gear and rattled off eight-straight points to gain a 14-10 lead over the Hawks.
At the first media timeout, Quincy trailed 14-12 after a bucket from Coakley.
QU still trailed for the next four minutes until
Charles Callier knocked down a shot from beyond the arc to give the Hawks a slight 22-21 lead with 10:20 left in the first half.
The pace of play was fast and furious in the first half as only two fouls were called in the first ten minutes of the game, and both teams got up 31 shots in that span.
At the under-eight-minute media timeout, the score was 26-25, Lindenwood.
Out of the break,
Silas Crisler converted a pair of free throws and Stuckman hit a jumper to give the Hawks a brief lead, but the Lions once again answered the bell.
The home squad scored seven straight points to go ahead 33-27 with 5:39 before halftime.
That lead was short-lived as Stuckman converted for two on the offensive end, and
Jack Youmans followed his hot shooting from Thursday with a three-pointer off the bench to make it 33-32, LU at the last media break before halftime.
The Lions gained some breathing room in the final three minutes of the first half. Lindenwood embarked on a 10-2 run to give themselves a 43-34 lead going into the locker room.
After a sluggish end to their first half, the Hawks came out with high energy and high focus to start the second half. QU scored twelve straight points after contributions from
Adam Moore,
Tanner Stuckman,
Silas Crisler, and
Jamaurie Coakley. Moore scored five of the twelve unanswered points for the Hawks.
The Hawks led 46-43 with 17:23 remaining.
Lindenwood weathered the storm and took the lead yet again on the heels of a 19-7 run. This run was fueled by the GLVC's leading scorer, TJ Crockett, who scored eleven of the seventeen points over a five-minute span. QU trailed by nine yet again, 62-53.
This burst by the home team propelled them the rest of the way and Crockett was the focal point. With 7:21 to play, the lead grew to 76-61 as Crockett notched his 30th point of the game.
After the early burst in the opening minutes of the second half, the Hawks made just 6-of-18 attempts from the field and 1-of-9 from three-point range in an eleven minute span where the Lions pulled away. QU also committed 18 turnovers in the contest.
Quincy was unable to make a last-minute comeback and dropped to 3-8 on the season with a 93-77 defeat on the road.
