QUINCY, Ill. – The Quincy University men's basketball team faced off with a streaking Missouri-St. Louis team on Thursday (Jan. 23) night who came into Pepsi Arena on a five-game winning streak. The Hawks got 29 points from their lead man,
Tanner Stuckman, but came up just short, 78-72.
In the first six minutes of the game, both teams battled for an advantage, but could not gain any traction. Quincy gained their first lead of the game when
Charles Callier got in the paint to make the score 10-8 with 14:50 on the clock. The Tritons came down the floor and answered with a three ball to go back ahead, 11-10.
QU got a brief momentum swing after a 7-0 run gave the Hawks a 17-11 lead with 13:15 remaining in the first half. Stuckman,

Jamaurie Coakley all scored during the swing.
A minute later, the Hawks captured their largest lead of the contest after
Tanner Stuckman and

From that point on, Missouri-St. Louis kicked it into gear. At the 7:44 mark, UMSL recaptured the lead behind a 14-2 run, but they were not done just yet.
The visitor's lead grew to 14 points when a jumper in the paint brought Quincy's deficit to 42-28 with 3:07 left in the half. QU scored two of the next three baskets before halftime, but the momentum was fully with the Tritons, who held a 44-32 lead.
From the time QU held a 23-13 lead with over twelve minutes in the first, UML outscored the Hawks 31-9 the rest of the first half.
This hole was hard to dig out of, but the Hawks never quit.
Quincy scored the first five points of the second half to cut the UMSL lead to seven, 44-37.
Adam Moore banged home a three to open the half and Stuckman converted a pair of free throws.

The Tritons hit the gas pedal once again and expanded their lead 57-42 with 12:24 to play.
QU never went away, as they cut the game to just six points, 65-59, at the six-minute mark, and they got as close as four points with under two minutes to play.
