QUINCY, Ill. – The Quincy University women's basketball team fell at home to Maryville University by a score of 81-50 on Thursday evening (Jan. 14).
The Hawks matched up with the Saints for the second consecutive time in three days after Tuesday's 74-70 overtime defeat.
In the first quarter, both teams exchanged buckets similar to their previous meeting. The largest lead of the quarter was six points after a pair of free throws from Maryville. Quincy quickly responded with under a minute to play on a deep three-pointer from
Aleksandra Petrovic assisted by
Amanda Porth.
After the first period QU trailed by three, 16-13, to the Saints.
Midway through the second quarter, a layup by
Sarah Nelson assisted by
Laney Lantz pulled the Hawks within one point at 19-18. This was the closest the Hawks would get, as Maryville followed with a 17-7 run over the final five minutes of the quarter.
Lantz ended the half with eight points on three-of-six shooting, as the Hawks trailed 36-23 at the break.
The second half was all Maryville as the Saints extended their lead to 20 points in the third quarter. The Saints shot 75 percent from behind the arcmin the third.
Entering the final period of play, Quincy trailed 58-38. The Hawks continued to fight, but the double digit deficit was too much to overcome.
Quincy took the loss at home, 81-50.
