Women's Basketball Unable to Stop Lindenwood

QUINCY, Ill. – The Quincy University women's basketball team faced off with the third highest-scoring offense in the GLVC on Saturday (Feb. 8)  when they took on the Lions of Lindenwood. The Hawks got 23 points from Alexa Low, but were unable to find an answer for Lindenwood's Kallie Bildner. Quincy fell 92-83.

How It Happened
Quincy got behind in the early going after the second leading scorer in the conference, Kallie Bildner, drained two three-pointers. Lindenwood captured an early 8-4 lead.

Alexa Low battled Bildner in the post and answered right back with back-to-back baskets which brought the score to 10-8 Lindenwood.

Ella Gobald tied things up with 2:02 left in the first quarter when her three-pointer made the score 17-17. Quincy struggled to finish off the first quarter and let up a 10-2 Lion run to cap off the first ten minutes of play. LU held a 27-19 lead going into the next quarter.

Quincy started off the second with back-to-back scores. The first basket came from Kennedy Prince and the next was from the hot hand of Alexa Low. This cut QU's deficit to 27-23.

Marta Rivera hit a jump shot with seven minutes left in the first half to cut Lindenwood's lead to three, 28-25. At the five-minute mark, Rivera tied the game with a three from the top of the key. The score was notched at 32-32 with 4:32 left in the half.

From that point on, the Lions went on a run that proved to be a factor later in the game. Lindenwood held Quincy scoreless for the remaining four minutes of the quarter and also scored twelve straight points. LU led at halftime 44-32.

Lindenwood came out of the break and extended their run into the second half. The Lions scored the first three baskets in the third quarter to take a 50-32 lead.

With 7:48 remaining in the quarter Lindenwood got a basket to make the score 52-34. The Hawks narrowed the margin by going on a 14-2 run which cut their deficit to just six points. Laney Lantz capped off the run with a three-pointer to make it a 54-48 LU lead.

Kallie Bildner scored the next six points for the Lions to push the visitors' lead back into double digits. She finished the game with 36 points.

Quincy trailed 63-53 going into the final quarter after Ella Gobald knocked down a deep three with thirteen seconds left in the third.

In the last ten minutes, both teams scored at a frantic pace. The Hawks and Lions combined for 59 points in the quarter with QU edging LU 30-29. The Lions run right before, and immediately following halftime, was enough to keep Quincy at bay.

The Hawks dropped the GLVC matchup, 92-83.

Alexa Low led the Hawks with 23 points, seven rebounds, and two blocks.
