INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Quincy University women's basketball team hit the road to take on the University of Indianapolis Thursday (Feb. 13) evening. The Hawks held a nine-point lead in the third quarter, but the Greyhounds caught fire late and ended the game on a 44-10 run to down QU, 76-51.
1st Half
Alexa Low put the Hawks on the board first after cleaning up an offensive rebound and nailing a jumper on the first possession.
Both teams traded the next few baskets until UIndy went on a 9-0 run to go up 16-8.
Jessica Merino found
Aleksandra Petrovic for a three-pointer at the 2:40 mark to cut the lead to 16-11, ending the Hawks four-minute scoring drought.
The Greyhounds ended the opening quarter on a 6-4 run, keeping a 22-15 lead.
Quincy turned the tides in the second quarter, shooting 58.3% from the field while holding the home team to just a 25% field goal percentage.
UIndy hit the first basket of the quarter, but QU proceeded to answer with a 10-0 run.
The Hawks run started with two free throws from
Sarah Nelson and a layup from
Marta Rivera.
Jessica Merino and
Laney Lantz followed that up with back-to-back threes, giving Quincy a 25-24 lead.
The Greyhounds scored their last bucket of the half at the 2:27 mark, as the QU defense turned up the heat in the final two minutes.
Sarah Nelson hit a jump shot just before the half to give Quincy a 37-32 lead heading into the locker room.
2nd Half
The Hawks extended their lead to nine in the first two minutes of the third quarter after jumpers from
Alexa Low and
Laney Lantz.
From that point on, however, QU only shot 15% from the field the rest of the quarter.
UIndy put together a 13-2 run in the next five minutes to regain the lead, 44-43.
The Greyhounds extended their lead in the final two minutes, taking a 54-46 lead into the final quarter.
UIndy road that wave of momentum into the final quarter, outscoring the Hawks 22-5 in the last ten minutes and earning the 76-51 victory.
