QUINCY, Ill. – The Quincy University men's lacrosse team launched its program on Wednesday night (Feb. 26) when they faced NAIA opponent St. Ambrose University. The Hawks fell in the opening game 16-6, but
Grayson Kuan scored twice while
Sam Huff made 25 saves.
How It Happened
The Fighting Bees of St. Ambrose were the first to strike in the contest. Midway into the opening quarter, SAU netted the first goal of the night to make it 1-0 with 8:04 left in the first.
Less than a minute later, QU found themselves down 2-0 when St. Ambrose scored once again.
Near the four-minute mark,
Grayson Kuan etched his name in the record books when he scored the first goal in program history. Quincy trailed 2-1.
The excitement was short-lived as the Fighting Bees went back on the attack before the end of the first quarter. Two more St. Ambrose goals in the final two minutes made it a 4-1 game going into the second period.
Quincy outscored the Fighting Bees 3-2 in the second quarter by adding goals from
Andrew Borror,
Kyle Srichantra, and another from Kuan. Despite the trio of goals, the Hawks trailed 6-4 going into halftime.
St. Ambrose came out if the locker room firing on all cylinders. The Fighting Bees netted eight goals in the third quarter to gain a double-digit lead, 14-4.
Max Greco and
Lane Chapman scored in the final period, but it was not enough as the Hawks fell by a final score of 16-6.
Next Game
The men's team will play next Thursday (March 5) at home against Lynn University. The game is set to start at 11 a.m.
