Top Ranked Panthers Too Much For Hawks On Senior Day

QUINCY, Ill. - The Quincy University women's basketball team took the floor on Saturday (Feb. 22) afternoon against Drury University, the #1-ranked team in the country. The Panther offense was too much for the Hawks as they shot over 50% from the field to defeat QU 112-63.

How It Happened
1st Half
The Panthers jumped out to a nine-point lead in the first five minutes of play. Alexa Low knocked down three shots and Ella Gobald added another to keep the Hawks within ten at 19-8.

After the first quarter media timeout, however, the third-ranked scoring offense in the nation caught fire. Drury ended the opening quarter on a 17-5 run to up their lead to 23 points heading into the second.

The Hawks nailed back-to-back jumpers to start the second period. Kennedy Prince found Laney Lantz for a three-pointer on the very first possession. Lantz returned the favor one minute later, finding a cutting Prince who dropped in the layup to cut the lead to 36-18.

Jessica Merino later nailed a three-pointer to keep the score differential the same, but the Panthers built their lead back up in the final minutes.

Quincy trailed 58-32 heading into the locker room.

2nd Half
Drury opened the third quarter on a 7-0 run and the Hawks were unable to thwart the Panther attack the rest of the way.

The visiting team shot 62.5% from the field during the ten-minute period and held QU to 3-for-10 shooting.
