QUINCY, Ill. - The Quincy University women's basketball team took the floor on Saturday (Feb. 22) afternoon against Drury University, the #1-ranked team in the country. The Panther offense was too much for the Hawks as they shot over 50% from the field to defeat QU 112-63.
How It Happened
1st Half
The Panthers jumped out to a nine-point lead in the first five minutes of play.
Alexa Low knocked down three shots and
Ella Gobald added another to keep the Hawks within ten at 19-8.
After the first quarter media timeout, however, the third-ranked scoring offense in the nation caught fire. Drury ended the opening quarter on a 17-5 run to up their lead to 23 points heading into the second.
The Hawks nailed back-to-back jumpers to start the second period.
Kennedy Prince found
Laney Lantz for a three-pointer on the very first possession. Lantz returned the favor one minute later, finding a cutting Prince who dropped in the layup to cut the lead to 36-18.
Jessica Merino later nailed a three-pointer to keep the score differential the same, but the Panthers built their lead back up in the final minutes.
Quincy trailed 58-32 heading into the locker room.
2nd Half
Drury opened the third quarter on a 7-0 run and the Hawks were unable to thwart the Panther attack the rest of the way.
The visiting team shot 62.5% from the field during the ten-minute period and held QU to 3-for-10 shooting.
The Hawks were outscored 30-18 in the final quarter as Drury went on to win by a final score of 112-63.
