Softball Drops Doubleheader To Kentucky Wesleyan

OWENSBORO, Ky. - The Quincy University softball team dropped a pair of non-conference games at Kentucky Wesleyan College on Saturday (Feb. 22). The Panthers defense did not give up any errors in 14 innings of play and held the Hawks to five total hits. KWC edged Quincy 2-0 in game one and used a big sixth inning to defeat the Hawks 6-0 in game two.

Game 1
The Hawks defense was sensational through the first four innings of play behind Mac Kenzie Collier. The junior from Custer Park, Illinois recorded four strikeouts in the first four innings and held the Panthers scoreless.

Unfortunately for QU, the home team mirrored them on the defensive end as the game stayed at 0-0 heading into the bottom of the fourth.

The Panthers scored the only two runs of the game in fourth inning on two hits and one error.

Quincy's best chance came in the top of the sixth inning. Aubrie Dodd led off with a walk and later advanced to second on an Ashley Gerber single.

The Hawks were unable to plate either runner as KWC got out of the inning with a line out to left field.

The Panthers sat QU down in order in the seventh inning to seal the 2-0 victory.

Game 2
The defensive battle continued in game two.

Both teams went five scoreless innings to start the contest. Morgan Tanksley started on the mound for the Hawks and kept the Panthers off the board through the first five innings, striking out two and only giving up four hits.

The sixth inning, however, proved to be the difference maker.

The KWC bats came alive, plating six runs on eight hits to take a 6-0 lead.

That score stood as the Hawks were unable to push any runs across in the top of the seventh.
