BOLIVAR, Mo. - The Quincy University women's basketball team wore their away uniforms for the third straight game on Thursday night (Feb. 20) as they traveled south to take on Southwest Baptist. The Hawks held a four-point lead at halftime, but could not hold the Bearcats off in the second half. SBU outscored QU 42-26 in the final two quarters to take a 60-48 victory.
How It Happened
1st Half
Thursday night's contest was a defensive battle from the beginning as neither team could buy a basket.

Aleksandra Petrovic got the Hawks on the board first, but the Bearcats answered right back in the first minute of play.

The next basket did not come until the 6:25 mark when SBU took advantage of a steal and dropped in a breakaway layup to go ahead 4-2.

For the second time in the first quarter, a long scoring drought followed.
Â
Ella Gobald broke nearly five scoreless minutes by nailing a jumper with 1:49 left in the opening quarter.

SBU added a three-pointer in the final minute and a half, as they took a 7-4 lead into quarter number two.

The Hawks came alive in the second period, multiplying their scoring total by more than four from the first.

Quincy opened the quarter on a 5-0 run after a three-pointer from Gobald and a mid-range jumper from Petrovic.

QU later extended their lead to five points when
Alexa Low found
Marta Rivera for the Hawks third three-pointer of the half, making the score 16-11.

Low stretched the Hawks lead to eight at the 2:08 mark with two free throws.

Despite holding the Bearcats to shooting 28.6% from the field in the quarter, the home team cut QU's lead in half in the final two minutes.

Quincy entered the locker room with a 22-18 lead.

2nd Half
Both teams traded buckets to start the third before
Dami Adeyinka poured in back-to-back jumpers to push the Hawks lead back to five, 28-23.

Grace Schraufnagel hit a layup midway through the quarter to extend the lead to six points, 31-25. Â

The Bearcats caught fire late, however, as they ended the quarter on a 9-0 run to take a 34-31 lead into the final period.

Alexa Low went to work early on in the fourth, making back-to-back buckets to cut the SBU lead to one, 41-40.

Unfortunately for the Hawks, that is as close as they would get. The Bearcats ended the game on 19-8 run and went on to win the game by a final score of 60-48.
