ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Quincy University men's basketball team took on the ninth ranked team in the country when they traveled to Missouri-St. Louis on Thursday night (Dec. 3). Quincy hung around early but faded in the second half as UMSL took the contest by a final score of 89-64.
In the opening two minutes, Quincy got a basket from
Viktor Kovacevic and a three-pointer from
Silas Crisler to take a 5-3 lead.
Missouri-St. Louis scored the next two buckets to regain the lead 8-5, but Kovacevic nailed a three to tie the score at eight points apiece.
With 11:16 to play, the Hawks went on a 7-0 run to jump ahead 15-10.
Jamaurie Coakley came off the bench and scored five points to fuel the seven-point swing.
A minute and a half later,
Paul Zilinskas gave Quincy their largest lead of the first half with a three-pointer, and QU led 18-12 with 8:38 to play before halftime.
In the final eight minutes, the Tritons flipped the script by outscoring QU, 30-12. Missouri-St. Louis went into the locker room with a 42-30 lead.
After the break, it was all Missouri St. Louis. The Tritons stepped on the gas pedal by opening the second half on a 15-5 run. UMSL's lead grew to 57-35 with 15:48 to play.
This was all Missouri-St. Louis needed to close out the game as the Hawks fell by a final score of 89-64.
