QUINCY, Ill. – The Quincy University men's basketball team led by as many as twelve points in the first half but were outscored 51-32 in the second half of Saturday's home opening game. The Hawks fell by a final score of 88-74 to drop to 0-4.
Early in the contest, QU was the aggressor and took it to the Lions. After LU opened on a 4-0 run, Quincy went on a 8-0 run to move ahead 8-4 with 17:47 to play in the first half.
Lindenwood knocked down a pair of free throws, then the Hawks went on another run. This time QU scored seven unanswered to pull ahead 15-6.
With 15:42 in the opening half,
Tanner Stuckman provided more offense for the Hawks by scoring six straight points. This brought the score to 21-9 and was tied for QU's largest lead in the game.
The Lions scratched back in it during the last five minutes before halftime.
At the 5:05 mark, QU led 34-23, but Lindenwood outscored Quincy 14-8 to bring themselves within single-digits. At the half, Quincy maintained the lead 42-37.
The tables turned in the second half. Lindenwood made just one three-pointer on twelve attempts in the first half, but made five key threes down the stretch on nine attempts.
A key moment in the game came with the score tied at 64 with nine minutes to play. After a loose ball scrum in the lane,
Jaylen Boyd was called for a technical foul after brushing off a Lindenwood player out of the pile. This resulted in a four-point swing and allowed LU to take the lead 68-64.
Quincy answered after a three-pointer by
Adam Moore made the score 72-70, LU with 4:51 to go.
Lindenwood delivered a crucial blow once again by going on an 12-1 run which increased their lead to 84-71 with under two minutes to go.
This deficit was too big to overcome as Quincy dropped its fourth straight game by a final of 88-74.
Side Note
Midway through the second half, senior,
Tanner Stuckman surpassed 1,000 points for his career on a made layup at the 15-minute mark.
