ST. LOUIS, MO. – The Quincy University men's basketball team shot the lights out in their first GLVC win at Maryville University on Saturday (Dec. 12). The Hawks shot 64% from the field and had five players score in double figures during the 91-81 road victory.
The Saints got things going after a three-pointer and a basket gave MU an early 5-1 lead.
At the 14-minute mark, Maryville extended their lead to ten points after a 12-6 run. The home team held a 17-7 lead with 14:06 left in the opening half.
Over the next three and a half minutes, the Hawks fought back. QU got buckets from
Jack Youmans,
Tanner Stuckman, and two made shots from
Adam Moore. Quincy trailed, 22-20, with nine minutes to play in the first half.
For the remaining nine minutes, both teams were unable to gain separation. The Saints and Hawks went bucket-for-bucket when Quincy gained their first lead of the game with just 48 seconds left before halftime.
Adam Moore hit a three-pointer to give the Hawks a slight 37-36 advantage, but the Saints sunk two free throws before heading to the locker room to make it 38-37 going into the second half.
Out of the break, the Hawks started off on a tear.

Tanner Stuckman scored three straight buckets to give QU a 45-38 lead.
Quincy's hot shooting continued well into the second half as the Hawks went a perfect 8-for-8 on their first eight three-point attempts. This offensive explosion helped fuel a 32-17 run during the first nine minutes of the second half.
With 11:41 left, Quincy led 69-55.
The separation gained during the opening nine minutes proved to be the difference in Saturday's contest.
Quincy continued to pour it on in the final eleven minutes of the game to secure their first win of the season, 91-81.
QU finished the game with an impressive 64% field-goal percentage, and an uber-efficient 62.1% from three-point range.
Five different Hawks scored in double figures, led by
Tanner Stuckman with 20 points.
Charles Callier scored 17,
Jack Youmans scored 16 in his first start of the season,
Viktor Kovacevic added 15 points, and
Adam Moore chipped in 11 points.
