ROMEOVILLE, Ill. –The Quincy University men's basketball team saw three players score in double-digits in a hard-fought road loss to Lewis University on Sunday evening (Nov. 29). Quincy fell by a final score of 77-70.
Halfway through the opening half, the Hawks trailed 22-15 as the Flyers shot 58 percent from the floor while holding the Hawks to just 37 percent.
Quincy continued to fight as they knocked down three straight three-pointers on consecutive possessions to narrow the margin to 28-25 with just under six minutes in the first half.
Battling from behind by as many as ten points, a deep
Jack Youmans three-pointer gave Quincy a 33-32 lead.
Entering halftime, the score was knotted at 36-36. The Hawks shot nearly 43 percent from behind the arc in the first half as Youmans and
Viktor Kovacevic led the way with eight points apiece at the break.
Halfway into the second half, a driving
Jack Youmans was fouled and sent to the free throw line. Going two for two at the line, the Hawks once again led 49-47 at the 11:44 mark.
Quincy later trailed by just two points at the eight-minute media timeout. The difference in the game came after a technical foul on
Viktor Kovacevic. The Flyers converted the technical foul shots and gave themselves their largest lead of the half. The score moved to 62-55.
Charles Callier made a three-pointer which was followed by a pair of free throws from
Jamaurie Coakley. This cut the Flyers' lead to two with 4:34 remaining.
Lewis was able to create separation with under a minute remaining, forcing the Hawks to play the foul game.
The Hawks came up short by a score of 77-70 in their second game of the season.
