QUINCY, Ill. - The Quincy University men's basketball team returned home Thursday night (Jan. 30) to take on William Jewell College. The Hawks bounced back from last weekend's road swing and defeated the Cardinals 76-65 in the friendly confines of Pepsi Arena.
Tanner Stuckman led QU with 24 points and 11 rebounds. Senior
Aziz Fadika also added a double-double, tallying 10 points and 10 rebounds.
How It Happened
The Hawks fell behind early after WJC knocked down three of their first four three-pointers. QU trailed 21-13 with 11:21 remaining in the first half, but quickly cut the lead down to two.
Justin Warren found
Tanner Stuckman for a corner three to start the run.
Adam Moore forced a turnover less than a minute later and found Stuckman at the top of the key, who once again drained a three.
The Hawks were never able to grab the lead in the final eight minutes, however, as the Cardinals went into the locker room up 39-32.
QU fought back out of the break. A pair of
Ryan Briscoe free throws and a layup from
Tanner Stuckman quickly cut the WJC lead to three, 39-36.
The visiting team pushed their lead back to eight, but it was all QU the rest of the way.
The Hawks went on an 11-2 run in the next three minutes, capped off by back-to-back buckets from
Aziz Fadika. QU took the lead 51-50 with 13:40 left in the game.
QU continued to stay hot, as
Justin Warren and
Charles Callier poured in back-to-back jumpers to make the score 56-50.
Viktor Kovacevic later converted a three-point play to give Quincy their largest lead at that time, 66-56.
The Hawks never faltered in the final five minutes, as redshirt juniorÂ
Ryan Briscoe knocked down clutch free throws down the stretch en route to a 76-65 victory.
