ST. CHARLES, Mo. - The Quincy University men's volleyball team earned a non-conference win in straight sets 3-0 (25-15, 25-20, 25-12) versus Lees-Mcrae College in the Lindenwood Invitational Saturday evening (Jan. 25).
1st Set
The Hawks started things off fast, as
Zach Reider completed back-to back aces, giving Quincy an early 6-2 lead.
Lees-Mcrae cut the lead to two after a kill, and trailed just 9-7. QU responded, and a Yoran Raymakers ace extended then lead to 12-8.
A few points later trailing by four, the Bobcats were forced to call their first timeout of the set. The Hawks were able to extend the lead out of the break, as Micheal Ladner's back to back plays gave Quincy a 19-14 advantage.
Momentum for the Hawks continued as Quincy received multiple kills from
Omari Wheeler, giving them their largest lead of the set, 21-15.
Quincy didn't stop rolling, as a Zack Reider block gave them an eight point lead and forced the Bobcats to burn their final timeout.
The Hawks closed things out on a 6-2 run, giving them a 25-15 first set win.
2nd Set
Through the first eight points of the set the score sat tied at 4-4. The Hawks then responded, as an attacking error gave them an 8-5 lead over the Bobcats.
Lees-Mcrae followed with a run of their own. A block at the net cut the Hawks lead to just one by a score of 10-9. A few errors by the Bobcats, and an Eddie Jakubauskus kill, extended the Quincy lead to 13-9.
The 3-0 Hawk run was enough for the Bobcats to call their first timeout of the set. Out of the break the Hawks kept things rolling, as back-to back kills from
Omari Wheeler gave Quincy a six-point lead at 15-9.
Wheeler continued his hot set as a touch-tip extended the Hawks lead to 18-11. The Bobcats continued to fight back with multiple big plays chipping away at the Hawks 19-13 lead.
A 5-0 Bobcat run made things interesting as they trailed by just three with a score of 22-19. The Hawks then settled back down, and closed the set out with an Eddie Jakubauskus kill and two errors from the Bobcats.
Quincy took the second set by a score of 25-20 and held a two-set lead over the Bobcats.
3rd Set
The Hawks jumped out to an early 4-2 advantage, but blocks at the net for the Bobcats tied things at 5-5.
A
Zach Reider block and
Michael Ladner kill then put Quincy on a 4-0 run and leading 9-5. The Hawks kept their foot on the gas as an Eddie Jakubauskus kill gave Quincy their largest lead at six.
Up 13-7, the Bobcats received a service error point and a kill to slow down the momentum of the Hawks.
A three point rally for Quincy was then topped off with a kill from junior
Adam Meyer. The Bobcats were forced to call their first break of the set trailing 17-11.
QU maintained its pressure out of the timeout, with a 5-1 run giving the Hawks a 22-12 advantage.
Quincy closed out the third and final set in style with an ace from Eddie Jakubauskus, and a 25-12 score.
