QUINCY, Ill. – The Quincy University women's basketball team showed signs of life in Thursday (Jan. 16) night's GLVC contest with Lewis University. QU got a twenty-three point performance from freshman guard Laney Lantz, but the Hawks fell by the score of 70-54 in the conference matchup. 

How It Happened
Quincy got off to a slow start on Thursday night as they only made five field goals in the opening ten minutes. The home team found themselves down 23-10 going into the second quarter. 

In the next ten minutes, the Hawks came alive by scoring near the basket. Quincy made all of their field goals inside the lane in quarter number two. On top of getting quality shots from close range, the Hawks also showed improvement on the free throw stripe. 

QU made eight of nine free throw attempts in the quarter as they eliminated Lewis' lead. With 1:42 left in the quarter, Quincy trailed by only two points, 32-30. 

Lewis made a three before halftime to take a 35-30 lead into the second half. 

The home Hawks stayed within striking distance after halftime behind an efficient third quarter.  The Hawks shot nearly 50% from the floor and knocked in their only two three-point field goals of the game. 

Three-point shooting was a challenge for Quincy as the Hawks made just two out of their fourteen attempts in the game. 

Despite the struggles from deep, QU only found themselves down six points going into the final quarter. 

The Flyers flew past the Hawks in the last ten minutes. Quincy was outscored 16-6 with only two field goals made. 

Lewis won by a final score of 70-54. Freshman Laney Lantz scored 23 points on 8-of-15 shooting, and she also went a perfect 7-for-7 from the charity stripe.
