QUINCY, IL – The Quincy University women's soccer team played a mostly even game with the University of Indianapolis on Sunday (Sept. 29) afternoon, but the Greyhounds scored early in the second half to win 1-0.
Play by Play
1st Half
The Hawks offense put the pressure on early to open the game. Quincy got off three shots in the first 16 minutes, but none found the back of the net.
Maddie Bauer got her head on the ball in the 12
th minute but the shot was saved by UIndy goalkeeper Laura Shake.
Lauren Crane found space three minutes later, but her shot was also saved.
Senior
Baylee Smith let one rip from deep in the 17
th minute but missed the mark high.
UIndy put their first shot on goal in the 27
th minute but QU goalkeeper
Emilee Autry turned the Greyhounds away.
The Hawks and Greyhounds combined to get off just six more shots in the first half. Both goalkeepers remained solid, going into halftime tied at 0-0.
2nd Half
UIndy came out firing in the second half, but Autry had their number. The sophomore from St. Louis made three saves in the first 12 minutes of the half, including two using full-extension to keep the visiting team out of the net.
The Greyhounds Maria Herrero broke the tie in the 59
th minute as she scored from 7 yards out off of a cross from the right side. UIndy took a 1-0 lead.
That score stood as the Hawks were unable to get another shot off the rest of the way.
