Women's Soccer Gets Back On Track With 2-0 Win Over UIS

SPRINGFIELD, IL – The Quincy University women's soccer team ended their three-game losing streak on Friday night (Hawktober 4). The Hawks shutout Illinois Springfield 2-0 to earn the GLVC win.

1st Half
Quincy came into Friday night's game having been shut out in their last three contests. The Hawks put just six shots on goal during that three game span. Tonight, the Hawks found their groove by scoring a pair of goals alongside seven shots on goal.

The Prairie Stars nearly gained the early advantage after being awarded a penalty kick in the first minute of play. Emilee Autry stood firm and saved the shot to keep UIS off the board.

Maddie Bauer wasted no time in giving her team the lead following Autry's stopped penalty kick. The junior forward found the back of the net after corralling a long feed from Paige Anderson. QU led early 1-0.

Lauren Crane kept up the offensive pressure in the 11th minute with a shot on goal. Crane's shot was saved to keep it a one-goal game.

Quincy's next shot on goal came in the 33rd minute. Senior defender Mo Rooney got a rare shot on the UIS keeper, but the save was made.

The Hawks back line stood firm in the remainder of the first half following the early-game fireworks. The Prairie Stars were able to manage just one shot on goal after the first-minute penalty kick.

QU went into halftime with a 1-0 lead.

2nd Half
Riley Hayes and Lauren Crane were the first to get offensive chances in the second half. Hayes had a shot blocked in the 53rd minute while Crane's shot was saved by UIS in the 55th minute.

The early pressure paid off for QU. In the 58th minute, the Hawks added to their lead after a goal by Lauren Crane which was assisted by Riley Hayes. Quincy held a 2-0 lead.

The Hawks offense was relentless for the remainder of the game by rattling off seven more shots. None could find the back of the net, but it did not matter. QU's defense allowed just one shot on goal in the second half setting up Emilee Autry for her second shut out of 2019. It was Autry's ninth career shut out.

Friday night's final score was 2-0 QU.
