KANSAS CITY, MO – The Quincy University women's soccer team traveled to Kansas City, Missouri on Sunday (Sept. 22) and fell 2-0 to a Rockhurst team that is receiving votes in the United Soccer Coaches Top-25 poll.
1st Half
Quincy put the pressure on early, earning a corner kick in the 7
th minute.
Baylee Smith received the feed from the corner and got off a shot. Her shot sailed high as the score remained 0-0.
In the 23
rd minute, Rockhurst's Greta Seal collected the ball off a clearance and squeaked it just inside the left post to put the home team up 1-0.
QU was on the attack again four minutes later.
Paige Anderson sent in a free kick that found the head of
Maddie Bauer. The ball went just above the crossbar as the Hawks came away empty.
Rockhurst extended their lead in the 31
st minute.
Emilee Autry made a spectacular diving save, but Hannah Byrne scored off the rebound to put RU up 2-0.
Quincy kept the ball on the offensive side of the field for the remainder of the half.
Alex Severino got a shot off in the 43
rd minute but missed wide right.
Rockhurst took the 2-0 lead into the half.
2nd Half
The second half started out with physical play as the two teams combined for five fouls in the first five minutes.
Bauer let a shot rip in the 54
th minute that was saved by the Rockhurst goalkeeper.
Emilee Autry was a brick wall in half number two, saving all five shots that Rockhurst put on goal.
The Hawks were unable to mount a comeback, however, getting off just one more shot the rest of the way.
Rockhurst held the advantage in shots (10-3) and corners (4-2) in the second half.
