Women's Soccer Gets First GLVC Win At William Jewell

LIBERTY, MO. – The Quincy University women's soccer team bounced back from a shutout loss and defeated the William Jewell Cardinals 2-1 on the road. The Hawks totaled 28 shots in Friday night's conference win.

1st Half
Since 2014, the Hawks women's soccer program was 4-0 when facing William Jewell in conference play. The Hawks looked to continue that streak on Friday night.

Early in the match both teams looked to gain early momentum. Quincy was quick to apply offensive pressure by ripping four shots between the 7th and 10th minute of play. Two shots by Lexi Porchia along with shots by Alex Severino and Lauren Crane missed the mark.

The Cardinals got a shot on goal in the 13th minute but sophomore goalkeeper Emilee Autry was there for the save. Autry was tested again in the 18th minute by the Cardinal attack, but she kept the game scoreless with a save.

With just seven minutes left in the first half, QU got a prime opportunity. Lauren Crane was fouled on a run in the left side of the goalie box. The referee gave WJC a yellow card on the play and awarded Crane a penalty kick. Crane drilled the shot to give the Hawks a 1-0 lead.

Quincy went into halftime leading by a goal.

2nd Half
Within the first minute coming out of halftime, Quincy was able to put up two shots. Lauren Crane had a shot blocked fifty-seven seconds into the second half. Baylee Smith followed with a shot of her own immediately after, but she missed over the crossbar.

The Hawk offensive attack kept the foot on the gas pedal in the second half. QU's front line pushed the pace and got off nineteen total shots in the second half alone.

One of those shots was put in the net. In the 48th minute, Maddie Bauer attacked the net, and her initial shot deflected off the Cardinal goalkeeper. The rebound bounced right back into Bauer's possession as she tapped the ball into the net for the second goal of the game.  QU led 2-0.

Quincy's defense held firm until the 77th minute. The Cardinals scored on a shot near 20 yards out to cut the lead in half at 2-1.

The Hawks did not waver the rest of the match. William Jewell did not have another scoring chance until near the end of the game. Jewell's Lexy Hawkins sent a shot at the net in the 87th minute, but Autry corralled the save.

The Hawks went on to win 2-1 as they moved to 1-1 in conference play.
