ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - The Quincy University men's volleyball team competed against their third straight nationally-ranked team at #7 Lewis Friday (Apr. 5). The Hawks fell to the Flyers in straight sets 25-17, 25-13, 25-15.
Play by Play
1st Set
The Hawks jumped out to a 5-4 lead early in the opening set behind kills from
Brendon Estrada and
Jacob Sheets.
Lewis answered by going on a four point run to take an 8-5 lead.
Estrada brought the Hawks within one at 9-8 by slamming home a kill and perfectly placing a service ace.
Both teams stayed within two points of each other until the Flyers used a late three point run to take a 20-15 lead.
The deficit was too much for the Hawks to overcome as Lewis won five of the last seven points to take the first set 25-17.
2nd Set
The Flyers took momentum into the second set, taking an early 5-1 lead.
QU cut the lead to 6-3 with kills from Sheets and
Omari Wheeler but were unable to trim the score any further in the set.
Lewis regained control and took twelve of the next 17 points to extend the lead to 18-8. The Flyers never relinquished the lead and won the second set 25-13.
3rd Set
Lewis scored the first three points of the third set to jump out to a 3-0 lead. The Hawks used a Flyer error and an
Adam Rogan service ace to cut the lead to 3-2.
The Flyers scored five of the next seven points to extend the lead to 8-4.
QU stayed within three points, using back-to-back kills by Estrada and Wheeler to make the score 11-8.
Lewis scored five of the next seven points to take a 16-10 lead and force a QU timeout.
The Flyers were not stifled as they only gave up five points the rest of the match. Lewis won the third set 25-15 and took a 3-0 victory.
