LIBERTY, Mo. – The Quincy University baseball team split the remaining two games of their weekend series with William Jewell College on Monday (April 1). The Hawks won the first game of the day 3-1 but fell 6-0 in the series finale.
Game 1
Both teams' line ups were held in check through the first three innings. The Hawks and Cardinals combined for just three hits in the opening innings.
Quincy was the first to get on the board in the 4th inning. Catcher,
Jacob Kalusniak, roped a 3-RBI double to right field to give the Hawks a 3-0 lead. Kalusniak drove in
Nolan Snyder,
Lance Logsdon, and
Cole Evans.
The Cardinals were able to scratch across a run on senior right-hander
Nick Stroud in the bottom half of the frame. Jewell had runners on the corners with one out after a hit by pitch and single up the middle.
The runner from third came home on an error to make the score 3-1. Stroud limited the damage and got out of the inning with just the one unearned run.
That score would stand through the next five innings as Stroud settled in. The veteran allowed just two hits in the 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th innings with four strikeouts to keep the Hawks in front.
Stroud ended his day with eight innings pitched, one unearned run on five hits, six strikeouts, and one walk.
The Hawks went down in order in the top of the 9th, and reliever
Sam Stephens took the mound to try and get the final three outs.

William Jewell managed to get the first three batters on base after a walk and two singles. Stephens locked in and got the next two batters to strike out.
With two outs and the bases loaded head coach
Josh Rabe brought in
Karl Hirsch for the last out.
It took Hirsch just one pitch to record the final out as the Hawks won game two of the series 3-1.
Game 2
William Jewell came out with more urgency in the series finale. The Cardinals were able to put up three runs in the bottom of the first to jump out to a 3-0 lead.
Three runs was all William Jewell starting pitcher, Thomas Hennelly needed.
The Hawks' offense struggled to get anything going in the third game of the series. Hennelly limited the QU line up to just two hits in the ball game.
Jewell plated another run in the 5th after an RBI double. The score was 4-0.
In the 7th inning, the Cardinals got two runs across on sacrifice fly-outs to make the score 6-0.
Hennelly went the distance and shut out the Hawks to avoid the sweep. QU fell 6-0.
