LEBANON, Ill. – The Quincy University men's volleyball team traveled to face the McKendree Bearcats on Friday night (Mar. 8). The Hawks fell to the Bearcats 25-22, 25-19, 25-19.
1st Set
The Hawks were forced to play from behind early. The Bearcats captured an early 4-1 advantage behind a pair of service aces.
Adam Rogan collected a kill which put QU down one as the score later moved to 6-5.
Midway through the opening set, Quincy tied the score 14-14 after a service error on McKendree. The score remained close until the Bearcats made a four-point run.
The run gave McKendree a 23-19 lead, and the Bearcats took set one 25-22.
2nd Set
In the second set,
Jacob Sheets collected an early kill to tie the score 1-1.
Blake Sprecher later added a kill to make it a 4-4 game.
The Bearcats scored the next two points to move ahead 6-4, but Quincy was able to regain the lead. Another kill by Sheets, a ball handling error, and an attack error allowed the Hawks to take a 10-8 lead.
McKendree responded by scoring the next four of five points to go ahead 13-11. Quincy called a timeout, but the Bearcats made another run after the break. A 4-1 run gave McKendree a 17-12 lead.
The Hawks moved closer behind three straight scores including kills from Sprecher and
Brendon Estrada. QU then trailed 17-15.
Quincy was not able to retake the lead as McKendree won set two 25-19.
3rd Set
Adam Rogan scored the first point of set three with a kill. The Bearcats took control of the third set after that.
McKendree scored five points in a row which allowed for a 10-4 lead. After a timeout by the Hawks, the Bearcats added two more scored to push their lead to eight.
This run proved to be the difference as the Hawks could not recover. McKendree won the third set 25-19 to take a 3-0 victory.
