Baseball Opens Series With 10-8 Win

LIBERTY, Mo. – The #6 ranked Quincy University baseball team battled William Jewell in a GLVC match up on Sunday afternoon (March 31). The Hawks opened the series with a 10-8 win as five players had multiple hits in the contest.

Lance Logsdon scored both Birdsong and Nielsen with a hit up the middle. The Hawks led 2-0 after the first.

The Cardinals used a flurry of offense in the 3rd inning to get on the board. WJC scored three runs on just two hits to take a 3-2 lead.

QU's offense was not phased by the lead change. The Hawks slapped five hits including another double by Nielsen to fuel a five-run inning.

TJ Tammacio, Carter Naughton, Cody Birdsong, and Cole Evans all singled in the inning.

Nolan Snyder collected an RBI on a sacrifice fly, along with RBIs from Birdsong, Nielsen, and Evans to give QU a 7-3 lead after the 4th inning.

Jewell surged back by scoring three runs once again. A lead off double and RBI single up the middle got things started.

The Cardinals managed to later plate a pair of runs with two outs in the inning. The score was 7-6 QU after 5 innings.

In the 7th, shortstop Carter Naughton hit his third home run of the season to give the Hawks an 8-6 lead.

In the bottom of the 9th, the Cardinals got a two-out RBI to make the score 10-8.

Two walks following the single loaded the bases with two outs. Jewell grounded into a fielder's choice at third base to seal the 10-8 victory for the Hawks.
