QUINCY, Ill. – The Quincy University baseball team came back from a six-run deficit before falling 13-8 to Illinois-Springfield on Tuesday (March 26). The Prairie Stars plated six runs in the top of the 9th to defeat the Hawks.
Play By Play
Tuesday's game was the third meeting between QU and UIS in six days. The Prairie Stars were the first on the board.
A sacrifice fly and RBI double in the 3rd inning gave UIS an early 2-0 lead.
In the 5th inning, the Prairie Stars added to that lead. A two-run home run, RBI triple, and another SAC fly made the score 6-0 UIS going to the 6th inning.
In the 6th, the Hawks' offense awoke with a flurry of runs.
Michael Nielsen had a RBI ground out to second base which allowed
Nolan Snyder to score from third.
TJ Tamaccio kept things going with two RBI's on a single to left field. QU then trailed 6-3.
Chandler Purcell brought the Hawks all the way back with a bases clearing double to left center. Quincy tied the score 6-6.
In the 7th inning,
Cody Birdsong gave QU their first lead with a solo shot to left field. The score moved to 7-6 QU.
UIS quickly tied the game at 7-7 in the top of the 8th on a RBI single to right field. The Hawks had an answer in the bottom of the frame.
Purcell once again brought in a run with a single to the right side.
Jacob Kalusniak came home to give the Hawks an 8-7 lead going to the 9th.
In the top of the final inning, the Prairie Stars plated six runs off two home runs and an error. After the third out was recorded UIS was ahead 13-8.
Quincy could not muster a late rally as they fell 13-8.
