MUNCIE, Ind. – The Quincy University men's volleyball team traveled to Ball State today for their eighth conference match of the season. The Hawks fell in three sets to the Cardinals 25-22, 25-20, 25-12.
Play by Play
1st Set
QU took an early 2-0 lead after two errors by the Cardinals. Ball State countered with four points of their own to go up 4-2.
Two huge kills by Brendan Estrada and
Ben Rachilla kept the Hawks in it as they trailed 7-5.
Omari Wheeler slammed a kill later in the set to cut the lead to just one at 11-10. Ball State forced a QU timeout after winning six of the next seven points to extend their lead to 17-11.
The Hawks would fight back with two kills by Wheeler and another by Estrada to make the score 24-21.
QU would not draw any closer as the Cardinals took the opening set 25-22.
2nd Set
An early error by the Cardinals and an Estrada kill gave the Hawks a 2-0 advantage for the second straight set. The Cardinals used two back-to-back kills to tie the score at 2-2.
Neither team could get anything going until three straight errors by the Hawks allowed Ball State to take an 11-8 lead, forcing QU to take a timeout.
The Cardinals rattled off seven of the next 11 points to extend their lead to 18-12. The Hawks then went on a 3-0 run to draw within three at 18-15.
QU could not get anything else going as Ball State took the second set 25-20.
3rd Set
Ball State took an early lead in the third set. The Hawks would use kills by Wheeler and Rachilla to cut into the lead, making the score 6-4.
The Cardinals would pad their lead, extending the score to 15-10.
Ball State would take ten of the sets final 12 points, defeating QU 25-12 in the third set to take a 3-0 victory.
