QUINCY, Ill. – The Quincy University men's volleyball team dropped their third straight game at the hands of #10 Lewis University on Saturday evening (Feb. 9).
Play by Play
1st Set
Brendan Estrada gave the Hawks an early lead 2-1 after a kill. The Flyers answered quickly to tie 2-2.
Lewis moved ahead after a 4-1 run gave the Flyers a three-point lead. Quincy answered with three points in a row to tie the score 6-6.
Omari Wheeler and Estrada collected kills.
The Hawks' run continued with two more points. Wheeler had another kill and a service error on Lewis made the score 8-6 QU.
The Flyers were quick to respond with back-to-back points to tie the game once again. Lewis later regained their lead after a bad set by
Matt Friddle made the score 12-11 Lewis.
Quincy trailed until
Noam Hannoun collected his first kill of the season. His kill tied the score at 15-15.
Lewis regained the advantage 17-16 after a Quincy service error. This was the start of a 6-0 run by the Flyers which allowed them to gain separation late in the set.
With the momentum to Lewis, favor, they held on for the 25-18 first set win.
2nd Set
Quincy showed intensity to start the second set. The Hawks got out out to an early 9-6 lead forcing a timeout from Lewis' head coach.
After the timeout, the Flyers scored back-to-back points to make the score 9-8. Quincy returned with two straight points which made the count 11-8.
Lewis got back into the game when an attack error by the Hawks brought the score to another tie 13-13. The Flyers retook the lead shortly after when another attack error gave LU a 16-15 lead.
Quincy called a timeout once Lewis extended their lead to 20-17. The Flyers kept the momentum and won set two 25-20.
3rd Set
The Flyers jumped out to a 3-0 lead to begin the third set. Quincy got on the board after a Lewis service error.
Lewis went on a 4-0 run after the point by QU to move in front 7-1. Head coach
Gavin Mueller called timeout.
Out of the timeout, the Flyers remained in control by extending their lead to 12-4. Quincy rattled off three points in a row to cut the deficit to 12-7.
After a block from
Jacob Sheets, the Hawks were able to trim the Flyers' lead to 15-10. Stevie Bressler scored a third straight for QU making the score 15-11, making Lewis call time.
Lewis was quick to regain control with a 3-0 run of their own to make the score 18-11. The Hawks could not climb back into it as they dropped the third set 25-14.
