Hawks Fall In Final Road Game

LIBERTY, Mo. – The Quincy University women's basketball team played its final road contest of the season at William Jewell College on Saturday (Feb. 16). The Hawks were unable to pull off the road win as they were downed 67-58. 

Play By Play
1st Half
Both the Hawks and Cardinals came out in a groove on offense. Six baskets were made in the first three minutes as the score sat tied 7-7. 

Neither team had a basket for a stretch of two and a half minutes in the first, but Jewell broke the silence to make the score 12-9 Jewell with 3:34 left in the opening quarter. 

Just before the quarter ended, Michaela Gronewold made two baskets in the final thirty seconds as QU trailed 21-17 heading to the second quarter. 

With under seven minutes to play in the second, the Hawks cut the deficit to two with a basket by Grace Schraufnagel. Schraufnagel scored her season-high of ten points on Saturday. 

Quincy was down just two points four f=different times in the quarter but could not capture the lead. They went to the locker room trailing 40-31 at the half. 

2nd Half
The Hawks opened up with a 7-0 run to start the second half and cut Jewell's lead to two points yet again. The Cardinals scored the next four baskets and brought their lead back up to double digits 48-38.

Aleksandra Petrovic made a 3-pointer to end the run which made the score 48-41. Jessica Merino cashed in on a 3-pointer just before the buzzer to make the score 55-46 heading into the fourth. 

In the final quarter, Quincy was unable to get within seven points. The Cardinals outscored the Hawks 32-18 in points in the paint during the game as they held on for the 67-58 win.
