KIRKSVILLE, Mo. – The Quincy University women's basketball team held a slim lead after the first quarter of Tuesday night's GLVC-opening game. Truman State responded by outscoring the Hawks 60-39 in the final three quarters en route to a 74-54 win over QU.
1st Half
The home Bulldogs kicked off GLVC play by gaining a 7-0 lead to start the game.
Dami Adeyinka scored QU's first points on a layup with 6:43 remaining in the opening quarter.
From that point, Quincy went on a 7-3 run over the next minute and a half to pull themselves back in the game.
Aleksandra Petrovic made a basket in the paint to make the score 10-9 TSU.
With a minute left in the first quarter, Quincy grabbed a quick lead when Adeyinka scored her second bucket of the game. QU went ahead 15-14.
The Hawks went to the second quarter with the lead.
That lead did not last as the Bulldogs came alive for nineteen points in quarter number two, and out-rebounded Quincy 12-6.
With 4:12 remaining in the first half, Truman State established a double-digit lead, 28-18.
Ella Gobald was able to bring the deficit within eight with a layup in traffic.
Just before the half, the Hawks made a late surge.
Ella Gobald scored again with 1:20 left to make the score 31-24. The Bulldogs knocked in a two-pointer with 34 seconds remaining in the second quarter, but QU quickly responded.
Jessica Merino sunk a three-pointer with 24 seconds left to bring Quincy within six points going into halftime.
2nd Half
Truman State opened up the third quarter with a 14-2 run which took the wind out of QU's sails after the break. Truman's lead expanded to 47-29.
Quincy made up a little ground by mounting a six-point run. This brought their deficit to 47-35 as
Marta Rivera made a three-pointer.
Going to the fourth quarter, the Hawks trailed 51-37.
The Bulldogs fended off Quincy in the final quarter behind four three-pointers.
Quincy was able to cut the TSU lead to twelve points with 5:43 remaining, but Truman outscored QU 13-5 to close out the game.
The Hawks dropped the GLVC opener 74-54.
The Hawks will look to bounce back this Thursday with a non-conference game at home against Central Christian College of the Bible. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m.
