HAMMOND, Ind. - The Quincy University men's basketball team traveled to Hammond, Indiana to take on Purdue Northwest on Saturday afternoon (Nov. 23). The Hawks battled back in the second half, but the Pride hung on to win 75-68.
Austin Downing led the Hawks with 14 points, 6 rebounds, and 4 assists.Â
How It Happened
Tanner Stuckman put the Hawks on the board first with a layup 50 seconds into the game. The Pride answered with a three-pointer and kept the lead for the rest of the first half.
PNW extended their lead to eight before
Adam Moore knocked down a three to make the score 14-9.
The home team immediately regained momentum by hitting a three-pointer of their own. The Pride extended their lead to eleven with 8:48 remaining in the half.
PNW led by as many as 15 points in the first half, but
Charles Callier later knocked down two free throws and
Jonah Smith added another to get back within single digits.
The Pride continued to answer every QU run, however, as they took a 42-30 lead into the break.

Aziz Fadika for a layup to start the second half out on the right foot. Downing later dropped in two free throws of his own to cut the lead to nine, 45-36.
PNW stretched their lead out to 13 points before the Hawks put together a 14-5 run.Â

Ryan Briscoe each found
Tanner Stuckman for back-to-back layups to spark the run, and then teamed up to cut the lead to four. Downing hit Briscoe for a three-pointer to make the score 64-60 with 3:36 remaining.
The Hawks were unable to get any closer, as the Pride knocked down five free throws and hit their final three shots in the final three minutes to secure the 75-68 win.
