QUINCY, Ill. – The women's basketball team hosted a non-conference opponent in Iowa Wesleyan on Sunday afternoon (Nov. 17), and the Hawks came out with a 95-64 win. Freshman
Marta Rivera led all QU scorers with 15 points, while
Aleksandra Petrovic,
Ella Gobald, and
Sarah Nelson each added 14 points.
1st Half
The home Hawks came out firing on Sunday morning. Quincy outscored the Tigers 19-2 in the first eight minutes of the game, as six different Hawks scored in the early goings.
At the end of the first quarter, QU held a 24-7 lead.
As the second quarter began, Quincy remained aggressive on offense.
Grace Schraufnagel added the first two baskets of the second quarter on layups in the paint. She would also finish in double digits with ten points for the game.
Ella Gobald pushed QU to a 30-7 lead with a layup in transition, but as the second quarter continued, Quincy increased their lead to 40-13 with 4:49 left.
The Hawks utilized mismatches down low and went into halftime with 36 of their 51 points scored in the paint. Quincy held a 51-21 lead going to the break.
2nd Half
In the first two and a half minutes of the third quarter, the Hawks upped the score to 60-25.
Dami Adeyinka,
Ella Gobald, and
Aleksandra Petrovic all got in on the scoring action.
With a little over two minutes left in the third quarter,
Kennedy Prince brought the score to 73-31 with a jumper in the lane.
Quincy went into the fourth quarter leading 80-38.
As the fourth quarter progressed, the Hawks bench contributed. Quincy's bench players totaled fourteen points in the final ten minutes.
Marta Rivera scored the first seven points in the fourth with two layups and a three-pointer. The freshman forward from Spain went a perfect 3-3 from beyond the arc in Sunday's game.
Kennedy Prince scored the final five points for the Hawks. Quincy secured a 95-64 win despite not scoring in the final two and a half minutes. The home team shot 57% from the field in Sunday's win.
