Strong Fourth Quarter Not Enough As Hawks Fall To Wisconsin-Parkside 83-76

QUINCY, Ill. – The Quincy University women's basketball team outscored the Wisconsin-Parkside Rangers 26-14 in the fourth quarter of Sunday's game (Nov. 10). Despite the strong finish, QU fell 83-76 in the non-conference matchup.

1st Half 
Sunday's contest started off with both teams exchanging baskets early. Laney Lantz scored two early buckets which made the score 8-6 UWP. 

The Rangers upped their lead to 12-6 after a couple of free throws and a jump shot in the paint. After a score by Grace Schraufnagel, Parkside made a a three-pointer to extend their lead to 15-8. 

Quincy responded with six points in a row, including two baskets from Aleksandra Petrovic and another from Schraufnagel. QU only trailed 15-14 with 2:50 left in the first quarter. 

Wisconsin-Parkside outscored QU 10-5 to end the quarter as they held a 25-19 lead going into the second. 

The Hawks offense stalled in the second quarter. QU only scored ten points in the quarter compared to the Rangers twenty. The home team went to the locker room trailing 45-29. 

2nd Half
Three minutes into the second half, the Rangers were able to push their lead to twenty points at 56-36. The Hawks tried to climb back into it, but were never able to get closer than seventeen points until the final quarter. 

QU came out with an added sense of urgency in the fourth. Facing a 69-50 deficit with ten minutes to play, the Hawks had work to do. 

Quincy began by making a pair of free throws in back-to-back possessions, and they followed this by scoring the next three of four baskets. Maddie Spagnola and Dami Adeyinka scored during the run for the Hawks. 

Now trailing 71-60, the home team continued to make things interesting.

Ella Gobald knocked down a three-pointer with 2:25 left that put the deficit in single digits. Quincy trailed 78-70. 

The Rangers answered right back with a three-pointer of their own to put the cushion back to eleven points. Ella Gobald scored two more buckets to make it a nine point game, but the Hawks ran out of time. 

QU's comeback came up short, falling 83-76 to UWP.
