Hawks Play Top-Ranked Bearcats To 0-0 Draw

QUINCY, Ill. - The Quincy University women's soccer team earned a clean sheet, but could not get on the board in a scoreless draw against the top-ranked McKendree Bearcats at Legends Stadium on Friday night (Hawktober 25).

The lack of goals did not derive from a lack of opportunity. The teams combined for 20 shots on the night. McKendree held a 7-2 advantage in shots on goal, but stellar play from Emilee Autry and the Hawks defense kept the opposing team out of the net.

1st Half
McKendree came into the game tied for third in the GLVC in shots with 220. The Bearcats added to that total early in the game, getting off three shots in the first seven minutes. Autry denied each attempt, recording three of her seven saves.

The Hawks first opportunity came in the 14th minute. Lauren Crane sent in a corner kick that found the head of Paige Anderson, but the shot missed wide.

The teams spent the rest of the first half battling for possession in the midfield as they combined for just four more shots.

Quincy earned another corner in the 30th minute, but that culminated in a Mo Rooney header going wide.

Autry recorded her fourth save in the 34th minute and both teams each had a shot blocked down the stretch.

The score sat tied at 0-0 heading into the half.

2nd Half
The start to the second half of play was quiet, with the first shot attempt not coming until the 70th minute. McKendree got an opportunity after a foul against Quincy, but the shot sailed high.

The Bearcat defense was solid in the second half as the Hawks were unable to record a shot.

McKendree tried to take the lead in the 84th and 88th minutes, but Autry had other plans. The sure-handed sophomore from St. Louis smothered both shot attempts to keep the score tied as the game went into overtime.

OT
The Hawks dominated the first overtime period.

Grace Hilbing fired a shot in the 96th minute, but it missed just wide. Sydney Gorman followed with another shot in the 98th minute, but McKendree goalie Zoe Brochu was there to make the save.

Quincy did not allow the Bearcats to get a shot off in the ten-minute period as the game moved to a second overtime.

2OT
QU stayed on the offensive side of the field as they ripped five shots during the period.

Four of the shots missed wide before Lauren Crane put one on goal in the 109th minute. The final shot for QU came up empty as Brochu was there to make the save.

The Bearcats countered, letting a shot fly less than a minute later. Autry came through once again as the game ended in a scoreless draw.
