ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Quincy University men's soccer team traveled to Maryville on Friday (Hawktober 18) to face the #25-ranked Saints. Maryville used a pair of goals in the first half and added an early second half goal en route to a 3-0 win over QU.
1st Half
Quincy and Maryville were among the top two in points in the GLVC coming into Friday's contest. Maryville led the conference with 83 points and QU was tied for second with 66. QU was the first to apply offensive pressure after a shot by
Cooper Reis in the 7
th minute.
The attack was short-lived as this was Quincy's only shot in the opening half. Maryville quickly turned the tide with a goal in the 11
th minute to go ahead 1-0.
MU kept the foot on the gas pedal and struck again just eight minutes later. Another netted goal in the 19
th minute gave the Saints a two goal advantage.
The remainder of the half, both teams were held scoreless as Maryville headed to the locker room with a 2-0 lead.
2nd Half
Maryville quickly delivered a costly blow after halftime. The Saints added to their lead less than five minutes into the second half. A 49
th minute goal upped Quincy's deficit to 3-0.
The Hawks frantically tried to get on the board with four second half shots. Only one went on goal as
Alsadiq Hasan saw his shot in the 58
th minute get saved by the MU keeper.
Evan Garcia and
Felipe Santana got off two late shots in the 84
th and 86
th minutes, but both missed wide right.
Maryville went on to win 3-0.
