INDIANAPOLIS, IN - The Quincy University football team traveled east to take on the #10 Indianapolis Greyhounds on Saturday night (Hawktober 12). The Greyhounds defeated the Hawks 52-13 despite the QU defense forcing three turnovers.
1st Half
Quincy started the game on a positive note as
Andrew Rund found
Paul Sullivan three times for 13 yards in the first four plays. After picking up a first down, the drive stalled at the QU 36-yard line as the Hawks were unable to convert on 3rd down.
The top scoring offense in the GLVC took the field and used eight plays to go 71 yards to score the first points of the game. A 13-yard touchdown pass from T.J. Edwards gave UIndy a 7-0 lead with 9:43 remaining in the opening quarter.
QU went three-and-out on their next drive, giving the ball back to the Greyhounds with 8:49 on the clock.
The Greyhounds drove down to the QU 6-yard line and the Hawks defense came up big.
Marvion Harris stopped Edwards on a third down to force a field goal. UIndy converted the 23-yard field goal to go up 10-0.
The home team got the ball back just over a minute later after
Nathan Kewney placed a 38-yard punt on the UIndy 13-yard line.
The Greyhounds looked like they were going down to score again, but the QU defense recorded the first turnover of the game.
Andrew Houston tallied his third interception of the season and returned it 23 yards to the QU 28-yard line.
The Hawks forced their second turnover of the game less than three minutes later. UIndy was driving to start the second quarter when
Peyten Chappel forced and recovered a fumble at the QU 20-yard line.
The QU drive was short-lived, as the Greyhounds recovered a fumble six plays later in Quincy territory.
UIndy took advantage of the short field, going 24 yards in two plays to extend the lead to 17-0.
The Hawks were unable to get anything going on the next drive and were forced to punt.
The Greyhounds took 4:42 off the clock on their next drive. UIndy used a 12-play, 80-yard drive that was capped off by a 1-yard touchdown pass to make the score 24-0.
The #10-ranked team struck again less than two minutes later, returning a punt 81 yards for a touchdown. UIndy led 31-0.
Quincy struck pay dirt on the next drive. The Hawks went 75 yards in eight plays and
Andrew Rund found
Beau Kaffka for an 8-yard score.
QU trailed 31-7 going into the half.
2nd Half
UIndy received the ball to start the second half. The Greyhounds marched 75 yards, using a 3-yard touchdown run to go ahead 38-7.
The Hawks first drive of the second half ended after three plays.
Nathan Kewney flipped the field by drilling a 53-yard punt that went out of bounds at the UIndy 3-yard line.
Both teams ended their next drives with a punt. Kewney did some magic once again, recording another 53-yarder that was downed at the 2-yard line.
The Greyhound offense drove 98 yards in 5:50 and Al McKeller scored his first touchdown of the game on an 8-yard run to put UIndy up 45-7.
The QU offense was stopped on their next drive, but Kewney came through one more time. The senior punter pinned the Greyhounds back to their 1-yard line.
Despite being deep in their own territory, UIndy went 99 yards in five plays to bring the score to 52-7.
The Hawks found the end zone again with 7:09 remaining in the game. An 8-play, 75-yard drive was capped off by an 8-yard touchdown pass from
Andrew Rund to
Chase Lowenstein. The PAT failed as the score sat at 52-13.
UIndy had one more score after forcing a turnover, going up 59-13.
Andrew Rund threw his third touchdown pass of the game on the next drive. The senior quarterback connected with
Carlton Stamp for a 66-yard score. QU trailed 59-19.
That score stood as the Hawks were unable to find the end zone for the remainder of the fourth quarter.
UIndy stretched their regular season winning streak to 15 games.
