Hawks Edge Milwaukee School of Engineering In The First of Two Sunday Games

QUINCY, Ill. – The Quincy University men's volleyball team edged out a competitive five set win over Milwaukee School of Engineering on Sunday morning. Junior outside hitter Omari Wheeler collected 22 kills in the win. 

1st Set
To begin the game, both teams opened with an attack error and a service error. Omari Wheeler got the first kill of the game which later tied the game at 3-3. 

The Hawks ended the tie with a kill to bring the score to 6-5 QU. The Hawks answered with a 4-0 run which forced a timeout by Milwaukee. QU led 10-5. 

Out of the timeout, the Raiders went on a run of their own. MSOE scored the next five of six points to make it a one score game 11-10. 

The Raiders knotted the game at 13 after a kill. Stevie Bresser came back with a kill to allow the Hawks to regain the lead. MSOE scored the next two points and moved ahead. Blake Sprecher recorded his first kill of the game to notch things back up 15-15. 

After a point on the next play by Milwaukee School of Engineering, head coach Gavin Mueller called timeout. 

Out of the timeout, the Raiders outscored QU 8-4 which gave them a 24-19 lead. They would end up taking the first set 25-20. 

2nd Set
MSOE got the first three points of set two. The Hawks were quick to respond. 

QU scored six straight points including kills by Stevie Bresser and Omari Wheeler to make the score 6-3. 

Later in the set, the Hawks forced a Milwaukee timeout after going ahead 15-12 following a MSOE service error. Following the timeout, Quincy gained its largest lead after a 5-2 run that had three straight Hawk kills. QU moved ahead 20-14. 

Quincy rode the momentum and tied the game with a set two win 25-17. 

3rd Set
Both teams were quickly tied 2-2 in the third set after a kill by Wheeler. 

With Quincy leading 7-6, the Hawks rattled off three straight to move ahead 10-6 which forced a timeout by MSOE. 

QU kept their foot on the gas. Another 3-0 run gave the Hawks a 17-11 lead. Blake Sprecher sent a service ace to cap the three point swing. 

The Raiders were never able to to fully respond. MSOE cut the Hawk's deficit to 22-20 before Quincy took set three 25-20.

4th Set
The Hawks won a long volley early in the fourth set to tie the game at 4-4. A block by Blake Sprecher and Stevie Bresser tied the score. 

MSOE scored the next five of six to pull in front 9-5. 

Attack errors by Milwaukee sparked the Hawks to get back within one point. MSOE held a 14-13 lead half way through set four. The Raiders went back ahead by three after two quick points forcing a QU timeout. 

After the timeout, Milwaukee pulled further ahead 20-13. They would go on to force a fifth set. 

5th Set
The Raiders took an early 4-1 advantage in the decisive fifth set. Quincy came back with three in a row to tie the score at four a piece. 

Milwaukee scored two-in-a-row to move ahead 6-4, but a service error and an attack error allowed QU to tie. 

The score would later be evened at 9-9 after a Quincy service error. 

The Hawks went ahead 13-10 after making a 4-1 run. MSOE called a timeout to stop QU's momentum. 

The Hawks finished off the set by scoring two in a row and winning the set 15-10.
