QUINCY, Ill. - The Quincy Hawks women's soccer team played the Indianapolis Greyhounds to a 0-0 draw Sunday afternoon (Sep. 30). The Hawks and Greyhounds battled for 110 minutes but neither team could find the back of the net.
Play by Play
The Hawks were the first to test the Greyhounds defense.
Cassidy Foley placed a shot on goal but the Greyhounds goalie made the save in the 11th minute of play.
In the 13th minute of action, defender
Gabby Orlando received a yellow card. This was the first of seven cards to be handed out during the game.
Foley again tested the Greyhounds goalkeeper in the 17th minute but was turned away again.
The Hawks nearly took the lead in the 30th minute. Senior
Abby Pulliam sent a shot on goal that hit the crossbar and almost gave the Hawks the lead.
The Hawks and Greyhounds went into the half tied 0-0.
QU had two early chances to score in the first seven minutes of the second half.
Mary Maloney had a shot go wide right of the goal and
Maddie Bauer had her shot saved.
Sydney Gorman received the Hawks second yellow card in the 53rd minute.
Indianapolis was given a yellow card in the 67th minute of play.
Both teams had several shots following the card, but none could find the mark. Another yellow card was awarded, this card was given to
Mary Maloney in the 79th minute.
In the 85th minute, Indianapolis received their second card of the game. Five seconds later,
Mary Maloney received a red card and the Hawks would be forced to play the remainder of the game a player down.
The Hawks and Greyhounds ended 90 minutes of action tied 0-0.
QU had the first opportunity to score in the overtime. The Hawks had a corner kick in the 96th minute but could not capitalize.
Just before the end of the first overtime, the Greyhounds placed a shot on goal but
Emilee Autry made a save to keep the score tied.
Cassidy Foley tried her luck again in the 108th minute but her shot was saved.
20 seconds before the end of the second overtime, the Greyhounds had one final chance. Emily Del Campo's shot sailed high and the Hawks and Greyhounds played to a 0-0 draw.
