QUINCY, Ill. -
Baylee Smith was in the right place at the right time in the Hawks 2-1 win over Southern Indiana Friday night (Oct. 5). Smith scored the game-winning goal in the 98th minute off a deflected header and improved the Hawks to 6-4-1 and 4-2-1 in GLVC action.

The Hawks and the Screaming Eagles provided plenty of offense from the opening kick. QU and Southern Indiana combined for 31 shots in Friday's contest.
Both teams had early chances to put a goal on the scoreboard but were unable to do so.
Lauren Crane played a shot towards the goal in the ninth minute of action but came up empty.
Southern Indiana answered right back with several shots on the net. The Screaming Eagles best opportunity to score early came in the 14th minute. After a Hawks foul, Madelyne Juenger stepped up to take the free kick. The Screaming Eagles defender blasted a shot from 35 yards out that sailed just over the crossbar and would have given Southern Indiana a 1-0 lead.
QU would not go quietly and continued to pressure the Screaming Eagles.
Cassidy Foley and
Abby Pulliam were relentless throughout the first half but were unable to find the back of the net.
The Screaming Eagles were finally able to break the Hawks defense by way of a corner kick. Off the corner kick, the ball was deflected in the middle of the Hawks 18-yard box. The Screaming Eagles found the back of the net to take a 1-0 lead after 32 minutes of play.
Southern Indiana took a 1-0 lead into the half.
The Hawks continued to battle, looking for the equalizer. QU would find the tying goal in the 64th minute.

Cassidy Foley tied the game from 18-yards out.
The back and forth battle continued for the remainder of regulation. Neither team could take the lead and would be forced to go to overtime.
In the first overtime period, the Hawks scored the golden goal in the 98th minute.
Baylee Smith scored the game-winning goal of
Abby Pulliam's penalty kick. It was Smith's first goal of the season.
