Hawks Defeat Culver-Stockton in Five Sets

QUINCY, IL. - The Quincy University women's volleyball team snapped their 9-game losing streak with a win over Culver-Stockton on Wednesday (Sept. 26). The Hawks won 25-19, 25-13, 19-25, 18-25, 15-12. 

Play by Play
The Hawks and Wildcats played the first set evenly. Midway through the set Culver went on a five-point run to pull ahead 15-11. QU ended the set by outscoring the Wildcats 14-4 and taking set one 25-19.

QU made quick work of set two. The Hawks jumped ahead 7-2 after a kill by Emma Lynch. The Wildcats were able to work back into the game by bringing the score to 12-8 QU. Quincy would increase their lead to 20-13 before ending the game on five straight points for a 25-13 win. 

Quincy looked to finish the Wildcats in three sets, but Culver had other plans. With Quincy leading 13-12, Culver-Stockton scored the next seven points to go up 19-13. C-SC rode the momentum and forced a fourth set with a 25-18 win.

In the fourth set, Quincy looked to be in control holding a 13-10 lead. The Wildcats roared back by scoring the next nine of ten points. The score now was 19-14 favoring Culver. QU was unable to retake the lead, and the game moved to a decisive fifth set. 

The back-and-forth battle continued as both teams were tied at six almost halfway through. Culver crept ahead 8-6, but Quincy managed to tie the game back up at nine after a kill by Taylor McMonagle. Culver tallied the next point to go ahead 10-9. The Hawks ended the game by scoring the last six of eight points to earn the win.
