QUINCY, Ill. - The Quincy University women's soccer team suffered its first loss of the 2018 season on Sunday (Sep. 2). The Hawks dropped their home opener 2-0 to Davenport University to fall to 1-1 on the season.

Both squads had early opportunities to get on the scoreboard. Senior
Abby Pulliam drove a shot to the near post that was saved by the Panthers goaltender at the five minute mark.
The Panthers nearly scored on a long shot that hit the crossbar but the Hawks were able to recover and grab the loose ball four minutes later.
The offense was limited for both teams and the Panthers and Hawks went into the half tied 0-0.
QU was the aggressor to begin the second half. The Hawks tallied eight shots and had seven corner kicks in the first 16 minutes of the second half. The Panthers held off the attack and kept the Hawks off the scoreboard.
In the 62nd minute, Alayna Hilgendorf beat the Hawks defense and found the back of the net to give the Panthers a 1-0 lead. The goal gave Davenport the momentum in the match.
A blast from 25 yards out by Ashlyn Skidmore gave the Panthers at 2-0 lead in the 73rd minute.
The lead remained 2-0 until the final horn sounded as the Panthers defeated the Hawks.
The Hawks outshot the Panthers 19-15 but Davenport placed nine of their 15 shots on goal. QU was unable to take advantage of 10 corner kickers in the match.
