QUINCY, Ill. - The QU baseball team picked up a pair of wins over Upper Iowa on Tuesday (May 1).  The Hawks won the doubleheader with scores of 8-6 and 15-3.  

Play by Play:

Game 1
The Peacocks grabbed a quick lead over the Hawks by scoring three runs in the bottom of the first inning.  

JC DeMuri led off the top of the second inning with a single and advanced to second on a wild pitch.  Michael Nielsen got the Hawks on the board with an RBI single and cut the lead to 3-1.  

With one out in the top of the third, Brynn Martinez reached on a bunt single and stole second base.  

DeMuri singled home Martinez and the Hawks trailed 3-2 after three innings of play.  

Chandler Purcell tied the game with a leadoff home run in the top of the fourth.  

The Peacocks plated three runs in the bottom of the fourth to take a 6-3 lead.  

Cody Birdsong launched a solo home run in the top of the fifth with one out to trim the lead to 6-4.  

Troy Wehde walked and advanced to third after a JC DeMuri double.  

Michael Nielsen scored Wehde with an RBI groundout.  

Trailing by one heading into the top of the seventh, the Hawks scored three runs on four hits.  

JC DeMuri reached for the fourth time with a single.  DeMuri advanced to second on an error by the left fielder.

Michael Nielsen singled home DeMuri and advanced to second on an error by the third baseman.  

With two outs, Matt Hilmes brought home Cole Cimarolli to give the Hawks a 7-6 lead with an RBI double.  

Jeff Hightower singled home Hilmes to give the Hawks an 8-6 lead headed into the seventh.  

Cole Crawford worked a scoreless seventh to give the Hawks an 8-6 win.  

Game 2
The Hawks offense exploded in game two of the doubleheader.  

QU scored four runs in the top of the first, capped by Chandler Purcell's two-run home run with two outs.  

The Peacocks got two runs back in the bottom of the first inning.  

Leading 4-2 in the top of the second Cody Birdsong lifted a grand slam over the left field wall to give the Hawks an 8-2 lead.  

For the third straight inning, QU scored four runs to extend the lead to 12-2. 

The Hawks offense continued its strong day, propelling the Hawks to a 15-3 win.  

Each Hawks starter recorded a hit, including Brynn Martinez, Cody Birdsong, and Jake Viaene each finishing with three hits.
