QUINCY, Ill. - The QU baseball team split its doubleheader with William Jewell Sunday (Apr. 28). The Hawks took the series by winning three out of four on the weekend. The Hawks dropped the first game of the day 3-2 before responding with a 9-8 win in game two.

Game 1
Both starters held the offenses in check through much of the first game of the doubleheader.
The Cardinals finally struck for the first run of the game in the bottom of the fifth inning.
A two-out single brought home the first run and gave the Cardinals a 1-0 lead over the Hawks.
The Hawks tied the game at 1-1 in the top of the sixth.
With one out in the frame, Chandler Purcell drew a walk. Purcell later advanced to second on a passed ball. Jeff Hightower tied the game with an RBI double to left center.
The Hawks took the lead in the top of the seventh.
Brynn Martinez led off the inning with a single and stole second base to put a runner in scoring position.
Cody Birdsong gave the Hawks the lead with an RBI single to score Martinez and the Hawks led 2-1.
The Cardinals pounded out three straight hits including back to back doubles to walk off the Hawks in the bottom of the seventh and take the first game of the doubleheader 3-2.
Game 2
The Cardinals struck first in the bottom of the first inning, plating one run in the inning to take a 1-0 lead.
A leadoff double by JC DeMuri in the top of the second gave the Hawks a runner in scoring position to start the frame.
After back to back strikeouts, Matt Hilmes tied the game with an RBI single to tie the game at 1-1.
QU took the lead in the top of the third.
Brynn Martinez tripled with one out and scored on an RBI single by Cody Birdsong and the Hawks led 2-1.
William Jewell took a 6-2 lead, after scoring five runs in the bottom of the fifth inning.
The Hawks tied the game in the top of the seventh inning.
The first two Hawks reached base in the inning.
With one out, Brynn Martinez singled home Matt Hilmes. Jeff Hightower also scored on the play as an error by the first basemen allowed Hightower to score. This cut the lead to 6-4.
Cody Birdsong tied the game with a two-run home run down the left field line.
A sacrifice fly gave the Cardinals the lead at 7-6 in the bottom of the seventh.
Trailing 7-6, the Hawks needed a run to extend the game.
TJ Tamaccio led off the top of the ninth inning with a double to left field.
With one out in the inning and Tamaccio on third, Cody Birdsong delivered again with a two-run home run to left field.
The Hawks held an 8-7 lead heading into the bottom of the ninth.
The Cardinals tied the game in the bottom of the ninth with a two-out single to send the game into extra innings.
Michael Nielsen doubled to right field to lead off the top of the tenth inning.
Cole Cimarolli, who pinch ran for Nielsen, advanced to third on a wild pitch two batters later.
Cimarolli scored on a sac fly by Matt Hilmes to gave the Hawks a 9-8 lead.
Brandan Moriarty worked a scoreless tenth inning to win the series with a 9-8 win in game two.
